Color Shock. That is what Elie Saab named his Spring 2012 collection and that is exactly what he gave us. Vibrant, statement-making hues in showstopping, sultry silhouettes. I immediately thought of Emily Blunt, Angelina Jolie and Diane Kruger because these dresses are red carpet perfection.
Sequins were on parade and a flashy woman like me was all for it. Used as an embellishment on a long ivory gown belted at the waist on Mirte Maas, a flirty cobalt blue cocktail number on Nyasha Matonhodze, a head-turning emerald green gown on Juju Ivanyuk: these dresses are not for the faint of heart, but will surely catapult anyone who wears them to the top of the Best Dressed List.
When Mr. Saab wasn’t going for glitz, he was still displaying full-on sensuality with thigh-high slits, plunging necklines, form-fitting silhouettes and exposed shoulders. The use of lace was another beautiful and feminine detail showing just the right amount of skin on an ivory cocktail dress on Fei Fei Sun, appearing on the shoulders of Roberta Narciso’s cobalt blue power suit and so much more.
